Seventy-five percent of writing a poem will take place in your head (mind) before you start to write; whether it’s a request or just something the poet wants to share. You will give a lot of thought to what you want to say, how you want to say it and who you’re saying it to. Then you search your heart as to how to put it in writing and the exact words you want to use.
Finally, you find the right words to rhyme with the previous line, and yet, keep the thought consistent while it expresses the contents with a rhythm to it. After that, the twenty-five percent is the trial and error of writing it down fittingly to accomplish the purpose. The process can go very quickly or it can be a little longer.
